Budapest

Budapest is the Capital of Hungary and has been named one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.  On the edge of the Danube River, this city is home to 2.3 million tourists every year.

Budapest was built by the Celts in 1AD and was then taken over by the Romans who built roads, houses and amphitheaters.  The Hungarians only settled in the city during the 9th century and it became the Capital of Hungary in 1361.
This beautiful city was partly destroyed at the end of World War II and again during the Battle of Budapest in 1944.

Budapest has some of the most beautiful architectural landmarks and amazing features that you can visit during your stay in this modern city.  It is home to the world’s largest water cave system.

Spend the day walking around Castle Hill and the Castle District with three churches and six museums to keep you busy.  Or spend some time at the Gothic Parliament Building and see the Hungarian Crown Jewels.

One of the most amazing sights is the 700 year old architectural masterpiece, the Matthias Church.  Other beautiful churches include Saint Stephen’s Basilica and Saint Elizabeth Church.  The Great Synagogue is another landmark you don’t want to miss during your visit.
Museums are everywhere and each has their own unique variety to offer.  The most visited are the Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Applied Arts and the Hungarian National Museum.

A fun day out for the family is Statue Park.  A theme park with a difference and is guaranteed to be enjoyed by all.
A night out can be had at Castle Theatre or National Theatre where you can enjoy a range of theatrical productions.

There are a few more landmarks which make Budapest famous. The Szechenyi Chain Bridge and Liberty Bridge are major landmarks in Hungarian history, while Heroes Square and Holy Trinity Square are wonderful places to walk around and soak up some culture and history.

Budapest is also home to some of the most magnificent castles and you can enjoy taking some time out to walk around them and enjoy their grandeur.  The Vajadahunyad Castle and the Buda Castle both attract thousands of visitors per year and show the amazing architectural designs that this city has become known for.

Travelling around Budapest using public transport is easy, there are public buses, trolley buses, trams, rail and boat services that can get you to where you need to go, so there is no need to drive while you are visiting this city.
