The second largest city in Switzerland, cosmopolitan Geneva is located at the southern edge of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Although the official language is French, English and many other languages are widely spoken, as Geneva is one of the international diplomacy capitals of the world.
A major draw for visitors to Geneva is Saint Peter's Cathedral, known for breathtaking views of the city and surrounding areas from its towers. Another popular attraction is the Flower Clock, which is an actual time-telling clock constructed over 6,500 flowers. The flower clock is located on the edge of the Jardin Anglais, which also features a famous bronze fountain created by the French artist, Alexis Andre.
Tourists and locals alike enjoy Geneva's many museums; there are over 40 public and private museums in the city. One of the most famous is The Musees d'Art et d'Histoire, which is so large that is has eight locations throughout Geneva. Another popular museum is the Musee d'Histoire Naturelle, which is the largest natural history museum in all of Switzerland.
Hotel accommodations in Geneva tend to be pricey, even by European city standards. Deals can sometimes be had on weekends, especially at the luxury level of hotels.
