Geneva

Geneva is a financial hub and known for its diplomatic importance and the Geneva Convention.  This city is the second most populated cities in Switzerland and is the Capital of Republic and Canton of Geneva.
First references to Geneva date back to 121BC.  This gorgeous city was taken by Burgundy in 443 and then by the Franks in 534, followed by a German Emperor in 1033.  The city proclaimed itself a republic in 1536.

Geneva is filled with architectural delights, culture and art and some of the religious buildings you can visit, which are listed as Swiss heritage are the Cathedral St. Pierre, Nortre-Dame Church and St Germain Church.
Popular museums include the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, Palace of Nations, Collections Baur and Petit Palais, which is home to French art dated 1870 to 1930.

 A night at the opera or seeing a theatrical production is a must at Grand Theatre de Genieve, an opera house which opened in 1876.  Victoria Hall is also known for some amazing productions to keep you entertained for the evening.

While visiting Geneva, you must spend a day in La Tour-de-I’lle, an island that hosts the famous clock tower and bronze statue by Regazzomi.

Another fun sight to see is the Jet d’Eau, this is a water stream that shoots 460 feet into the air.  It is a sight that should not be missed when visiting.

If you enjoy architecture, you will love Cathedral St. Pierre, this Cathedral is gothic and is one of the most beautiful cathedrals you will see in the area.
Place Neuve is a town square that is full of cultural landmarks, you can spend the day strolling the area and soaking up all it has to offer.

When you grow tired of the museums, theatres and sights and just want a quiet and tranquil day.  Take a stroll around the many beautiful landscaped parks around the city and have a picnic in the sun.  La Perle du Lac is a tranquil park with plenty of place to lie back and relax.
Parc de la Grange is one of the most magnificent rose gardens you will ever see, while Jardin Anglais is an English style garden that will have you relaxed in no time at all.
Conservatoire et Jardin Botaniques is a sixty five hectare botanical garden with ample place to go for quiet leisurely walks or soak up the sun and read a book.  Take a little time out this holiday.
