Memphis Steeped in History and Culture

Memphis located in Tennessee was originally inhabited by the Chicksaw Indian tribe, but was purchased in 1795 by the Spanish governor of Louisiana to build Fort San Fernando de las Barrancas. This gave the Spanish control over the Mississippi River until 1797. The fort was then abandoned in accordance with the Pinckney’s Treaty and was dismantled in 1817.

Seventy five percent of the population was wiped out by the yellow fever in the 1870’s and now this city is bustling with culture, arts and adventures.
While visiting Memphis you must visit the National Civil Rights Museum, which is located where the former Lorraine Motel was, this is where the famous Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated.
