New Orleans home of Jazz
New Orleans was named after Philippe d’Orleans the Duke of Orleans, Regent of France and was founded in 1718. It was ceded by Spanish rule from 1763 to 1801 and was sold to the US in 1803.
New Orleans is known as the birthplace of Jazz, but unfortunately it recently got known worldwide for the devastation Hurricane Katrina caused in 2005.
New Orleans is filled with French Creole architecture and has a predominant French Quarter, known as The Quarters, which is a place you must see when you visit this city. Bourbon Street offers the nightlife, while The Quarter offers the New Orleans Mint, which is now a museum and St Louis Cathedral.
Other places to visit if it is culture you enjoy are the National World War II Museum and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
A fun thing to do for the day is travel o the Audubon Zoo or the Aquarium of the Americas using a streetcar, which still run on three tracks. The public bus system is very good in the city, but why not try something different?
Other fun places to visit for the day include the New Orleans Botanical Gardens, the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park and Storyland, a theme park where fairy tales come to life.
A great outdoor adventure can be a trip on New Orleans Creole Queen, a riverboat which has regular trips daily and the Louisiana Children’s Museum can keep everyone amused, whether you are young or old.
Walking, bicycling and horseback riding are other things that can keep you busy during your holidays.

If you are looking for affordable accommodation and somewhere to use as a base for your holiday, Hotel Le Cirque is a three start hotel close to Bourbon Street and the Louisiana Superdome. It offers air-conditioning and wireless internet is available in public areas. This is a cheaper alternative and although it offers clean rooms, there is no hotel facilities such as a restaurant or pool.
The city has struggled with the losses it encountered in Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but this has not slowed the booming tourism industry. New Orleans still welcomes thousands of tourists each year as people arrive to see their rich heritage and have a great holiday.
New Orleans is the place to visit if you enjoy history, culture and jazz. Although there is a lot to do with children, it is the adults who enjoy the wealth of information this city has to offer from its large range of museums to its thriving nightlife in Bourbon Street.
