Paris

Paris is known as the most romantic city in the world, but it’s also filled with culture, history, music and art.  If you are planning a trip to Paris, you can soak up the culture and feast your eyes on the magnificent artworks on display.

Paris is the largest city and Capital of France and records indicate that the earliest inhabitants lived in the city as far back as 4200BC.  There is definite proof that the Celtic Senones lived there in 250BC and that the Romans conquered Paris in 52BC.
The collapse of the Roman Empire lead to Germanic invasions which caused the city to decline during the 5th century and Paris remained until Germanic Franks control for many years.

The Black Death plague hit the area in 1348 killing approximately 800 inhabitants a day.  Charles VII of France reclaimed Paris in 1436.
The city hadn’t seen the worst of it, as Cholera struck the area in 1832 killing off a large number of the population.
The universal expositions during the 19th century turned Paris into an important technological, trade and tourism center.
On the 14 June 1940 the Germans defeated Paris in the Battle of France and they remained in Paris until it was freed in 1944.

Since then Paris has grown and become the most popular city in the world for art, culture, romance and music.

The most popular sites you really can’t miss when visiting this bustling city is the Eiffel Tower, a true landmark for the city.  The Louvre is home to over 35,000 art pieces and the Champs-Elysees is known so well in movies throughout the world.

Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris and Natpoleonic Arc de Triomphe are other landmarks that should not be missed while you’re travelling the area.

A quiet day in the park having a leisurely walk can be enjoyed at Parc de la Villette and Tuileries Garden, a sixteenth century park.
Disneyland Paris is one of the most visited areas in Paris with over 14 million visitors a year.  This brings in a lot of tourists to the area.

Spend a day soaking up the arts at the Petit Palais, the home of fine arts or the Guimet Museum to see the largest collection of Asian art.  Visit Carnavalet Museum, a museum dedicated to the city’s history, Musee National de Ceramique-Sevres is a ceramics museum and Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Pauma is the Museum of Contemporary Art.
