Stockholm

Stockholm a city steeped in history and culture.  Planning a visit to this city has you visiting the largest city and Capital of Sweden.  It has been the official Capital of Sweden since 1634.
The city was founded around 1250; this is the first reported mention of the city.
The city has lived through the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520 and the plague in 1710 and has still come out a modern and technologically advanced area to visit.
Stockholm heritage can still be seen in the Old Town (Gamla Stan) where the earliest settlers lived.  The medieval streets offer you lots of sites to see including the large German Church, Riddarhuset, Bonde Palace, Tessin Palace and Oxenstierra Palace.

Stockholm is a very artistic area and this can be seen at National museum, which has over 16 000 paintings on display or the Museum of Modern Art, where you can see original paintings by Picasso.
Other museums include the Stockholm City Museum, Skansen an open air museum and the Nordic Museum.  Don’t miss out on the Royal Coin Cabinet or the Vasa Museum.
A night out can be enjoyed at the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Stockholm City Theatre or the China Theatre.  The Modern Theatre of Dance puts on some fantastic productions as does the Oscar Theatre.

Stockholm also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, with the Stockholm Jazz Festival being held in July and the Stockholm Marathon which is held in June.
For a family day out the Grona Lund Amusement Park offers entertainment for the whole family with thirty different rides to choose from. 

Congestion charges apply in the city center, so public transport is available in abundance from the fast metro system and rain to the inner city boat.  You can buy one ticket that is for the whole day and enables you to use whatever public transport you want as many times you need.  That’s good value for money.
